Francisco Bores was born in Madrid on May 5, 1898 and died in Paris on May 10, 1972. An artist who became part of the art world through his engravings and woodcuts, appearing in various magazines related to the subject. His little success in Spain as a painter made him go to Paris, where he would spend most of his life, a city where he met Pablo Picasso and Juan Gris. His success began in Paris in 1927, when he exhibited individually for the first time, and also exhibited in a gallery in the United States, in another in London, and at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Befriends Henry Matisse during World War II. He will also exhibit in cities such as Germany, Denmark and Italy. He also continues to illustrate books such as one by Federico García Lorca, with linocuts, and another by Albert Camús, with lithographs. His work is preserved in museums such as MoMA, in New York, the Georges Pompidou Center, in Paris, the Wadworth Atheneum, in Hartford, Connecticut (USA), the Grenoble Museum, in France, the Museum of Fine Arts of Bilbao, the Kunsthaus Zürich, in Switzerland, or the Institud Valenciá d'Art Modern de la Generalitat Valenciana, among many more. He has exhibited individually in Madrid, Paris, London, New York, Stockholm, etc. His artistic career can be divided into a series of periods, specifically five; One of them, called Renovated Classicism, would be from 1923 to 1925, that of Neo Cubism would be from 1925 to 1929, the so-called Fruit-Painting from 1029 to 1933, that of Interior Scenes from 1934 to 1949, and the White Style from 1949 to 1969. They have dedicated retrospectives and anthologies to him at the Museum of History and Art in Luxembourg, and in the Exhibition Rooms of the Directorate General for Artistic and Cultural Heritage in Madrid.
